Test of Design 3
Design 3 was the first design we felt was good enough to test. We 3d printed up several models and placed five of them in an old paint can with a few inches of water. At the beginning of the test, the models worked decently well. However, they began to absorb water and soon several began sinking as you can see below.
Test of Design 4
Design 4 was iterative when compared to design 3. It was intended to reduce the plastic used an self-tecelate. It was quite successful. It worked pretty much as intended. As you can see in the video below, the units self-tecelate despite the induced agitation of the water.
Large-Scale of Design 4
Design 4 was tested on a larger scale. They tessellate quite effectively. Check out the video shown below.
UV Test of Design 6 Plastics
Using the rig attached below, the amount of UVA light blocked by the units was measured using the procedure attached here.
The results showed that the PetG reduced the strength of UVA light let through regardless of the thickness of the unit, whereas the PLA only reduced the strength of UVA at its thickest points.
